That's all folks!

Now it's time to say goodbye to CML's 23 things. I enjoyed this experience greatly. I use the skills and tools I have learned at work, home and school. I realed that I was not as knowledgeable about web 2.0 tools as I thought. I'm glad I got to participate in this project with all my wonderful co-workers. Thank you everyone that help make all of this possible. (And thanks for paying me while doing all of it!) :)

Tweet Tweet Tweet and away we go!

I think twitter is the most commonly used social tool among my friends besides facebook (I deleted my myspace and I don't think many people I know are using it anymore). It's a really good networking tool. If you maybe post about how you're job searching someone that is "following" you could write "@" you and give you advice. I use twitter here n' there. I just link my twitter and my facebook so if I change my twitter status, it will also change my facebook status. cool.

LibraryThing

This is a cool way to share books that you enjoy with others. I might create one, but I don't think I would return to it very often. I usually just post the books I enjoy on my facebook and on my blog.

Library Blog/Newsfeed

This is an informative article I found while searching library blogs:

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=231898

Bloglines

Bloglines definitely was the most painful Thing. I remember spending hours that week helping different people (and trying to figure it out myself) navigate through the directions and the site. I don't think I will be using Bloglines anytime soon. I guess it is nice to see when different sites add a new article, but I'm not an avid reader of just any one site.

Flickr

Flickr seems to be a very easy to use site. I like how you can search through anyone's albums that are public for a specific subject. I have not used it yet. My family uses the Kodak online albums and my boyfriend's family uses Shutterfly. I just post most of my pictures on Facebook. I don't have a camera yet, but when I get one I'll do more research on which site to use.

Registering my blog on CMLsi

I now have to backtrack since I did not make a blog post about some earlier Things. My first one is registering my blog on CMLsi. Pretty easy except my blog was not a link until weeks later :( It's fun to click on people's blogs and guess who they are. Now we can spy on some 200 people!!!

moldi...ew

MOLDI did not have books I was too thrilled about. I would really like it if they would put some good Arabic books on there. It would be a great way to study the language.

Podcasting

Podcasting is super sweet. I don't use it personally, but I know many that do. I found a podcast on podcastalley.com that dealt with news about Harry Potter. It's called MuggleCast. So fun. I haven't watched it yet, but I bet it's pretty funny. I probably wouldn't watch it all the time, but it would be pick-me-up every now and then.

Digg

Digg is super sweet because you can share ANYTHING from the web and not just a video or a picture. Anything. Kewl.

YouTube

Billy O'Reilly, wow. I love this video haha.

I'm Cooked

I searched the best web 2.0 sites for food. I clicked on the one that one first place and thought it was great! People can tape themselves cooking their favorite dish and easily upload it to the site. Instead of just looking at recipes, you can actually watch average people making yummy food you can make at home. Just create an amazing dish, and you could be internet famous! They give you a program that you can download for free to edit and add different effects to your video before you post it. It would be really cool too to see celebrities cooking their fave food on a video they made themselves.

Google Docs

I like it, I REALLY like it. I am sick and tired of emailing attachments to people that I want comments from. It would be sweet to just use Google Docs and have them right their comments right on the document. This would be awesome for the student organizations I'm in at OSU. I could make a flier or a powerpoint of upcoming events and share it with all of the exec board and they could add their events they want to share. Then me or anyone else could just open it at the meeting and show it. How convenient!

This would be great for a group project I'm going to work on for my Arabic culture class. We could make a Google powerpoint and everyone could add their own slides! Super easy!

Murals

My aunt forwarded me this in an email. How cool! It's made up of a bunch of other artwork and you can click on each box to see what the original looks like.

Learn and Play Wiki

I edited a few pages on the Learn and Play wiki. I think this is a fun idea and a good way to get to know people. We should keep this up because I could really use it. I love getting new book and restaurant ideas.

wika wa wiki

I think wikis are great. I can't remember when I didn't go to wikipedia for information for school or just common knowledge. It's so convenient that anyone can change them, because it's usually not the tech person that's the first to know about the changes in information, but he/she is the only one that usually can access the website and edit it. I like how libraries are simplifying searches for patrons and keeping them up to date on the easiest way to find information. It's nice as a calendar to to keep customers and staff up to date on events going on. There is always something changing and we need to get the info the viewer as fast as possible to avoid chaos.

Library and Web 2.0

Library 2.0 means a way of catching up to the rest of the world. Our patrons are rapidly entering the web 2.0 world, and we need to provide them with the most beneficial tools we can to accomodate this new way of life. We have to keep up with the ever changing technology so getting up to speed by having this Library 2.0 idea is great. As long as we can keep up and keep training ourselves, especially with Learn and Play here at CML, we will learn how to be as successful with assisting patrons as possible.

Yummy...or Delicious!

Delicious seems like a good networking/reference tool for those who would like to find information from a variety of places. It's nice because it's a one stop site to search for all kinds of sites in a certain subject area. I can see people using this as a social networking tool since you can see the bookmarks/tags of others and get a feel of what they are interested in. It's also nice to use at the library to answer any kinds of reference or general book questions. It looks like some bookmarks for humfa have a lot more information about the book (and sometimes exerpts) to inform a customer or staff about a book.

Library Thanggg

I used Library Thing to add some of my fave books. It was quick and easy. It seems as thought it is a good tool to view reader reviews and receive other book recommendations.

Image Generatoring...Who knew? I liked using the FD Toys generator. It was easy, fun and a great way to spice up any photo!

Bloglines

I just found out how to use Bloglines today! i don't think I'll ever use it in real life, but at least I know how to now. I used the first site suggested on CMLsi ; topix.net. I liked that A LOT better than using the ask.com provided by Bloglines.

Ipod cable

I just bought a new Ipod because mine died a year ago when it got a little wet when I took it into the bathroom with me to listen to while I was in the shower. I scrounged up enough money from working at the library full time after I came back from Egypt (If you didn't know who this was before, you'll know now! ). I wanted to listen to it in the car on my way to PA so I borrowed my boyfriend's Ipod cable. The dang thing didn't work in my car though. You have to set your radio to a station that gets complete static or is silent. None of my stations were like that! So when I turned on my Ipod and tried to listen to some songs, it was all staticy! Ugh. I'm going to try and buy one for myself and see if I can program it to work well with my radio.

Mappr on Flickr

As I was oggling on the wonderful features Flickr has to offer, I came across one I was semi-familiar with. Mappr is a third-party site where you can add your photos to a map to show in what part of the world you took your pictures. There is an application on Facebook that let's the user label places on a map to share with others the places you've visited. This is kind of like that except it adds not only a visual of the location you were in on the map but also a picture you took while you were there! How nifty!

First blog!

Dear devoted readers,

I will now take this time to confess my love for the one and only Melvil Dewey. He has been a part of my life now for about 20 years. We have become very close the past 4 years when I began seeing him regularly in Pennsylvania. Now I am in Ohio and spending more and more hours with him on a daily basis. I feel extremely motivated and passionate for helping people when I am around Dewey. I think I might just have a healthy, long lasting relationship with Dewey...
On another note, We are beginning a program titled Learn and Play at CML. I'm very excited to complete the necessary "23 things" and enter to win fabulous prizes! Since I'm 20, I use a lot of these social networking tools; mainly Facebook though. It's so crazy that now I am allowed to use it along with blogger, flickr, twitter and etc. on work time! I really enjoy it so far. I've helped some of the LAs and librarians in my division already set up blogs and Facebook accounts. I'm really learning a lot from helping them and playing along myself. I LOVE working at the library! :)
